Couchbase Inc. is the latest technology provider to incorporate generative artificial intelligence into its premier product.

For its database-as-a-service offering, Couchbase Capella, it recently announced a new feature it calls “Capella iQ”. With AI-generated recommendations and sample code, Couchbase claims it will make it faster and easier for developers to write SQL and application code.

Generative AI has become the trendiest trend in technology, and everyone desires a piece. It is a type of artificial intelligence popularized by OpenAI LP’s ChatGPT that can generate anything from original written words to speech and code.

Couchbase Capella is a cloud-hosted variant of the Couchbase NoSQL database used to fuel complicated business applications. Unlike traditional databases such as Oracle Database, Capella can simultaneously process structured and unstructured data, making it a more versatile option for certain applications. Capella can function as a data cache due to its capacity to manage multiple types of data. Therefore, businesses can use a single system in Capella as opposed to three distinct systems: a database for structured data, a data store for unstructured information, and a data cache.

According to Couchbase, Capella iQ is based on fundamental models that give the Capella developer workbench an integrated development environment for creating Capella-using apps’ unique intelligence. With Capella iQ, developers can quickly generate code, sample datasets, and run tests using natural language commands.

The assistant also offers advice on search syntax for index creation and other programmatic access to Capella. According to Couchbase, the service will make it easier for developers to create and test Capella applications faster, increasing their overall productivity and raising the caliber of their code.

Capella iQ is currently in preview, according to Scott Anderson, Senior Vice President of product management and business operations at Couchbase. It can generate code that would typically take hours to produce manually in a matter of seconds. He said, “This makes developers more efficient when building modern apps.”

According to Holger Mueller of Constellation Research Inc., generative AI will probably be essential to the future of application development because there aren’t enough programmers in the world to write all of the necessary software. He said, “Enterprises want to speed up developer velocity, so it’s good to see Couchbase innovating here. We’ll see soon if the benefits deliver on day-to-day enterprise coding practices.”

In addition to Capella iQ, Couchbase announced its intention to build a robust AI-acceleration-focused partner ecosystem. According to the company, the Couchbase AI Accelerate partner program will make it easier for businesses to develop AI applications with Capella and offer them to other organizations.

Furthermore, a number of more conventional updates that Couchbase released for the Capella platform are now generally accessible. For instance, it claims that integrating its platform with well-known tools like Vercel and the IntelliJ family of IDEs facilitates a streamlined developer experience. It has recently received CSA Star certification and Infosec PCI compliance, demonstrating that the platform satisfies more extensive enterprise standards for cloud-based applications.

Last but not least, Couchbase claimed it is improving Capella’s performance by dynamically scaling disk storage and input/output operations per second. It claims that Capella can now handle increasing workloads more effectively and with quicker response times as a result. Because of this, Capella clusters can now support more concurrent read and write operations, ensuring that applications are highly available even during periods of high demand.
