Dell Technologies Inc. has announced its plan to acquire Moogsoft Inc., a startup specializing in an artificial intelligence operations platform designed to aid companies in troubleshooting technical issues within their infrastructure.

Dell recently announced the acquisition, but the specific financial terms are not disclosed. The deal is expected to be completed during Dell’s current fiscal quarter, which extends until Oct. 28.

Founded in 2012, Moogsoft secured over USD 92 million in funding from various investors through multiple funding rounds. Over time, the startup has amassed a customer base of more than 140 organizations as of early 2022, with notable clients such as American Airlines Inc. and Uber Technologies Inc., among other major enterprises.

The fundamental offering of Moogsoft is an AIOps software platform that uses artificial intelligence to detect problems in a company’s technology infrastructure. The platform is equipped to discern the root cause of such discrepancies, streamlining the troubleshooting process for administrators.

By collecting and analyzing diagnostics data from a company’s infrastructure, Moogsoft’s platform effectively detects technical issues, including events like server outages and trends like gradual decreases in application performance.

Notably, the platform employs patented algorithms to filter out 99% of irrelevant data “noise” from a company’s systems, enriching the remaining information with contextual details. This automated analysis minimizes administrators’ need to sort raw diagnostics information manually.

Moreover, the platform intelligently groups related error alerts when multiple technical issues arise simultaneously within a company’s network. For instance, if a database that supports several applications goes down, those applications may all be affected. Moogsoft’s platform simplifies troubleshooting by identifying and grouping these related errors.

In September 2020, Moogsoft introduced a cloud edition of its platform, and since its launch, the number of cloud customers has grown by over 150% as of March 2022. The startup also reported experiencing its highest growth rate in two years during the first quarter of 2023.

Dell mentioned that this acquisition will “further enhance Dell’s AIOps capabilities, as part of its longstanding approach of embedding AI functionality within its product portfolio.” The company will disclose other strategy details post deal closure this quarter.

In January, Dell purchased a startup called Cloudify Ltd. that developed a platform for streamlining the creation and administration of application environments. In a statement, Dell stated that it would employ Cloudify’s technology to improve its edge computing products and that it had paid USD 100 million for the acquisition.
