Artificial intelligence security platform startup WitnessAI Inc. raised USD 27.5 million in the funding led by Ballistic Ventures LLC and GV Management Co. LLC to quicken the development of the latest AI security solutions.

Given that Ballistic Ventures founded and supported AI in 2023, the company’s journey to becoming a venture capital-backed firm is not like others. To solve what it viewed as an emergent issue—the need for governance and taking on new security problems presented by AI—the venture capital firm hand-picked and nurtured the company’s founders.

WitnessAI’s primary competencies are AI privacy, governance, and security. The three main issues mentioned as impediments to AI adoption—loss of visibility, control, and protection—are what the company’s platform aims to solve.

According to WitnessAI, these issues are resolved to allow for the secure and efficient application of AI in businesses. The WitnessAI Secure AI Enablement Platform constitutes modules for AI usage observation, AI use governance and policy enforcement and employee protection, customers, and enterprise data from AI utility.

Chief Executive Rick Caccia said, “Building a safe AI enablement platform that works at enterprise scale requires a purpose-built team with expertise in AI and ML, red and blue teaming, and web-scale platform deployment. We’ve built something that works in the most demanding environments, including global organizations and across clouds.”

WitnessAI is implemented as a separate, cloud-based instance for every customer to protect data privacy and maintain regulatory isolation. Each instance is encrypted using a different set of keys. To enforce control policies, safeguard user privacy, and guarantee data security, the platform monitors user interactions with large language models. It achieves this through an integrated design incorporating cutting-edge methods for enterprise-scale web service deployment, offense and defense security for AI tasks, and machine learning.

Barmak Meftah, General Partner and Co-founder of Ballistic Ventures said, “WitnessAI will enable enterprises of any size to use AI safely and effectively. When major technology shifts occur, they create the opportunity for someone to build the next great platform, and WitnessAI is building that new platform for enterprise AI.”
